Supported by People, States and Federal Government

According to studies performed by the Character Education Partnership,
90% of Americans were found to support Character Education in the
classroom.  Support for Character Education is seen even at the federal
and state level too.  In 1997, The United States Department of Education
gave 2.8 million to 12 states for program development to teach values in
schools.  In 2003, 39 federal grants were administered in support of
Character Education.  The total of those grants was reported to be 24.8
million dollars.

The No Child Left Behind Act (an education bill) was included in the
Partnerships in Character Education in 2001.  The benefits of the act are to
provide funding to states that develop Character Education Programs.  It
also promotes the development of a national center to serve as a
clearinghouse for information regarding Character Education.  The No
Child Left Behind Act also incorporated a study to discover where
Character Education is being taught in U.S. Schools.
